This webinar focuses on physical activity, policy, and the childcare setting. Participants will learn about:
- Key concepts in physical activity;
- The importance of policies in childcare settings including a summary of best practices and policy recommendations; and
- Resources to put these concepts into practice including toolkits and policy documents, highlighting the Eastern Ontario Health Unit Physical Activity Environment Self-assessment and Planning Toolkit for Childcare Settings as well as hands on physical activity programming ideas.
- Mary Jane Gordon, BNSc: Public Health Nurse, Reproductive and Child Health, KFL&A Public Health
Mary Jane Gordon works at KFL&A Public Health and is the physical activity lead for the Family Health Division. As an advocate for physical activity promotion in the early years, Mary Jane has been involved in local, provincial, and national projects including participating in the development of the Canadian Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour Guidelines for the Early Years, a member of the Canadian Sport for Life Kingston project leadership team, and coordinating a partnership in the development of a physical activity policy document for childcare centres in KFL&A.
- Chantal L. Lalonde, MHS: Health Promotion Specialist – Physical Activity, Eastern Ontario Health Unit
Chantal Lalonde works at the EOHU as the Health Promotion Specialist for the physical activity program. She is a passionate advocate of physical activity, working with others within the sector both provincially and nationally to develop innovative solutions to address physical inactivity. Her passion for physical literacy motivated Chantal to lead the development of key messages and an advocacy campaign to ensure education and childcare environments are supporting the development of physical literacy and she is collaborating with key stakeholders on establishing consensus on the topic of physical literacy.
