Background

1995

  • WTW was written collaboratively by Halton Regional Health Department and Hamilton-Wentworth Regional Public Health Department.

1996

  • WTW was launched to the general public in Halton and Hamilton-Wentworth

1999

  • WTW was distributed to public health units through the Active Living Community Action Project, managed by Ophea (Ontario Physical and Health Education Association).

2003

  • In the fall of 2003, funding was secured from the Ontario Stroke Strategy to conduct a comprehensive evaluation and needs assessment to inform the future development of Walk This Way, specifically as a resource to support physical activity in older adults. The needs assessment investigated future directions for the resource and gathered feedback about recommended revisions for the content as well as the management of WTW.
  • An evaluation consultant was contracted and worked closely with staff of the Physical Activity Resource Centre (PARC) and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care representatives to ensure that the evaluation and needs assessment would be consistent with both PARC and Ministry interests.
  • Public Health Units and major stakeholders were surveyed and interviewed informally to determine how WTW had been used in the past, and whether WTW had been used in a manner consistent with the original expectations.
